A top price for Qi Baishi
When the work Willows At The Riverside; Begonias by Qi Baishi was auctioned at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2012, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 20,000,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 70,100,000.00 (€ 6,830,365.11). This high result makes Willows At The Riverside; Begonias the most expensive artwork by Qi Baishi that we have observed at auctions so far.
