Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Narcisse Berchère could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in June 2011 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master and 19th Century European Art auction, the work Outside The Walls Of A North African City changed hands for USD 11,875.00 (€ 8,176.69) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Narcisse Berchère - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Mahallet-el-Kebir (Lower Egypt), which sold at auction in March last year for GBP 23,940.00 (€ 28,383.56).
