Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Apollo with two river gods and a nymph, perhaps Daphne; and The Rape of Hippodamia by Michelangelo Maestri was sold in the Old Master & Early British Drawings & Watercolours auction at Christies in London in December 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,316.47) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Michelangelo Maestri have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Personifications of eleven hours of the day and night in April 2000 with an auction result of GBP 16,450.00 (€ 28,161.73).
