Saabye was the co-founder of the Danish consulting engineers Saabye & Lerche, part of the Groupe Suedo-Danois consortium which constructed the Turkish Irmak-Filyos & Fevzipasa-Diyarbekir railway under Ataturk between 1927-35. It is likely the present work was a gift to Saabye for his role in this project); thence by descent to the present owner
