MARCEL BROODTHAERS (1924-1976) Sixteen Photographic Portraits and one Self Portrait, 1957-1967, 1974 New York: Marian Goodman Gallery and Multiples Inc., in collaboration with Sander Gallery, 1983. Portfolio of seventeen gelatin silver prints, each stamped photographer's credit in ink and numbered '13/50' in pencil (verso); each titled and dated in typeset (mat, recto); each image size ranges from 5 3 ⁄ 4 x 8 in. (14 x 20.3 cm.) to 11 1 ⁄ 4 x 8 1 ⁄ 4 in. (28.5 x 20.9 cm.), each sheet size ranges from 6 x 8 1 ⁄ 4 in. (15.2 x 20.9 cm.) to 12 x 8 7 ⁄ 8 x in. (20.3 x 25.4 cm.), together with colophon including plate list and introduction by Wieland Schmied; number thirteen from an edition of fifty; contained in clamshell portfolio with gold typeset on affixed labels.
Auction result misses estimated price range
In October this year a collector was able to acquire the work Sixteen Photographic Portraits and one Self Portrait, 1957-1967, 1974 by Marcel Broodthaers for USD 882.00 (€ 834.60). This price was achieved in the auction A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Marcel Broodthaers achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Surface de moules (avec sac) (Surface of mussels (with bag)) in June 2012 with an auction result of GBP 433,250.00 (€ 536,466.65).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Im Oktober diesen Jahres konnte ein Sammler die Arbeit Sixteen Photographic Portraits and one Self Portrait, 1957-1967, 1974 von Marcel Broodthaers für USD 882,00 (€ 834,60) erwerben. Dieser Preis wurde in der Auktion A Century of Art: Photographs from The Gerald Fineberg Collection bei Christies in London erzielt und lag noch unterhalb der von dem Auktionshaus angesetzten Schätzpreisspanne von USD 4.000,00 – 6.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Marcel Broodthaers erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Surface de moules (avec sac) (Surface of mussels (with bag)) im Juni 2012 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 433.250,00 (€ 536.466,65).
