An oban tate-e print; titled along the left margin Shiba Zojo-ji (Zojo-ji Temple in Shiba), from the series Tokyo nijukei (20 Views of Tokyo), depicting a woman walking past the iconic vermilion facade of the Zojo-ji Temple, huddled beneath an umbrella during a snow blizzard, dated Taisho juyonen saku (Taisho 14 [1925]), published by Watanabe Shozaburo, with the wide, rectangular Hanken shoyu Watanabe Shozaburo seal along the left margin; signed Hasui with Kawase seal. 38.2cm x 25.7cm (15 1/16in x 10 1/8in).

The work Shiba Zojo-ji (Zojo-ji Temple in Shiba) by Kawase Hasui was auctioned at Bonhams in London in May this year. It achieved a price of GBP 8,960.00 (€ 10,425.02), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 49%. Admittedly, works by Kawase Hasui have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Hiraizumi Konjikido (Konjiki Hall At Hiraizumi) in September 2021 with an auction result of USD 75,000.00 (€ 64,783.62).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 49 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Shiba Zojo-ji (Zojo-ji Temple in Shiba) von Kawase Hasui kam im Mai diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in London zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 8.960,00 (€ 10.425,02) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 49%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Kawase Hasui auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Hiraizumi Konjikido (Konjiki Hall At Hiraizumi) im September 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 75.000,00 (€ 64.783,62).
