Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work A Sturgeon And Thornback Ray With A Cod, Oysters, Mussels And Other Fish On A Seashore, A Ship In The Distance by Jan van Kessel I was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in February 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 13,750.00 (€ 11,260.34). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan van Kessel I achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Garden And House Spiders With Grass Snakes And Caterpillars Contorted And Entwined To Spell The Artist'S Name; A Sprig Of Redcurrants With An Elephant Hawk Moth, A Ladybird, A Millipede And Other Insects in December 2014 with an auction result of GBP 542,500.00 (€ 698,377.41).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit A Sturgeon And Thornback Ray With A Cod, Oysters, Mussels And Other Fish On A Seashore, A Ship In The Distance von Jan van Kessel I im Februar 2018 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 15.000,00 – 20.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 13.750,00 (€ 11.260,34) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jan van Kessel I erzielen.
