In October 2004 Christies in New York held the auction 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN ART, which included the work The Fern Gatherers by James John Hill. The price achieved of USD 23,900.00 (€ 18,750.98) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Fern Gatherers is the most expensive artwork by James John Hill that we have observed at auctions so far.
