Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work La Façade de l'Eglise Saint Laurent à Florence (The Facade of San Lorenzo in Florence) by Jacques Callot was auctioned at Christies in New York in January this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 882.00 (€ 812.30). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacques Callot achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Fair At Gondreville, Or Mayday Celebrations At Xeuilley in July 2007 with an auction result of GBP 288,000.00 (€ 427,746.48).
