Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2019 Christies in New York held the auction Old Master Prints, which included the work Carceri by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. The price achieved of USD 225,000.00 (€ 196,437.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 180,000.00 – 250,000.00. Other works by Giovanni Battista Piranesi have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in January 2001 the work An architectural fantasy: the entrance to a palace with a monumental staircase by a fountain was auctioned for USD 358,000.00 (€ 384,615.38).
