The work Nimbus by Gillian Ayres was sold in the Modern & Post-War British Art auction at Sothebys in London in November 2018. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 75,000.00 (€ 84,597.72), 25% above the upper estimate. With this result, Nimbus is even the most expensive work of art by Gillian Ayres that we have observed at auctions so far.
