Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In March last year Bonhams in London held the auction Modern & Contemporary African Art, which included the work Three figures with bicycle. Sophiatown, circa 1940-42 by Gerard Sekoto. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 150,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 162,750.00 (€ 192,958.44). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gerard Sekoto - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a man (Lentswana), which sold at auction in September 2018 for GBP 380,750.00 (€ 427,631.20).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im März letzten Jahres führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Modern & Contemporary African Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Three figures with bicycle. Sophiatown, circa 1940-42 von Gerard Sekoto zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 150.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 162.750,00 (€ 192.958,44) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von Gerard Sekoto mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of a man (Lentswana) beobachtet, die im September 2018 für GBP 380.750,00 (€ 427.631,20) versteigert wurde.
