Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dutch A Still Life Of Flowers by Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os was sold in the 19th Century European Paintings and Modern & Contemporary Art auction at Sothebys in Amsterdam in December 2009. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of EUR 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, the actual price achieved of EUR 84,750.00 could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Georgius Jacobus Johannes van Os - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Roses, peonies, irises, hollyhocks, narcissi, blazing star, primulas, marigolds and other flowers with a Five-spot burnet moth in a vase with a river god carved in relief on a plinth with tulips, morning glory, clematis, an Orange-tip butterfly, a Re, which sold at auction in December 2005 for GBP 220,800
