Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Returning From Market by George Barret the Younger was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,440.00 (€ 2,115.54). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Barret the Younger - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Solitude: An Italianate Landscape With A Figure Reclining Beneath Trees, which sold at auction in July 2017 for GBP 6,000.00 (€ 6,695.08).
