This artwork by Constantin Meunier achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in November 2009. In the 19th Century European Paintings including Spanish Painting, The Orientalist Sale, and German, Austrian, Scandinavian and Symbolist Works auction, the work Belgian Ophelie sold for GBP 13,750.00 (€ 15,047.60) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Constantin Meunier achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le semeur in June 2010 with an auction result of GBP 313,250.00 (€ 380,941.16).
