Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Low tide at the mouth of the estuary with fishermen dragging in their nets on the foreshore by Charles Martin Powell was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in November 2010. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,250.00 (€ 2,688.75) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Charles Martin Powell have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Dutch Merchantman And Other Shipping Passing A British Frigate Anchored Off The Dutch Coast in November 2001 with an auction result of GBP 15,275.00 (€ 24,307.34).
