Acquired directly from the artist, Baroda | Vinodini and Satyapal Mayor moved to Baroda in the 1950s. Vinodini, a professor of Mathematics at the MS University of Baroda, and Satyapal, who worked at Satyadev Chemicals, were well connected with the social and contemporary art scene of the city. In the 1960s, Vinodoni established what was to become the famous Artist's Colony, behind their home Kamal Cottage in the grounds of the Shiv Mahal Palace. The colony played host to a number of young artist

The work Untitled (Portrait of a Gentleman) by Bhupen Khakhar was sold in the Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art auction at Sothebys in New York in March last year. It achieved a price of USD 25,200.00 (€ 22,717.03), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 26%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Bhupen Khakhar achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Residency Bungalow in June this year with an auction result of GBP 1,984,400.00 (€ 2,309,499.96).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 26 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Untitled (Portrait of a Gentleman) von Bhupen Khakhar wurde im März letzten Jahres in der Auktion Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 25.200,00 (€ 22.717,03) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 26%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Bhupen Khakhar erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Residency Bungalow im Juni diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 1.984.400,00 (€ 2.309.499,96).
