A top price for Angelika Kauffmann - as previously expected
The work Portrait Of Mary May (1745-1824) With Her Three Daughters; And Portrait Of Joseph May (1730-1796) With Their Three Sons by Angelika Kauffmann was sold in the Old Master & British Paintings Evening Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,106,500.00 (€ 1,330,947.89) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait Of Mary May (1745-1824) With Her Three Daughters; And Portrait Of Joseph May (1730-1796) With Their Three Sons is the most expensive artwork by Angelika Kauffmann that we have observed at auctions so far.
