AN IMPRESSIVE NARRATIVE ICON OF THE PASSION OF CHRIST

The story beginning in the lower centre with the Betrayal, spiralling outwards, anti-clockwise to the left; the following scene depicting Judas agonising in remorse over his act, shown again to the left with the devil symbolically clinging onto him, in the lower left corner Christ surrounded by the Roman soldiers who had taken him for judgement to the High Priest Annas and the Pharisees, Peter shown seated at the side; the right half of the lower register with Christ in front of Pontius Pilate, the Mocking of Christ directly above; the middle register occupied by the Walk to Golgtha with the two thieves bearing their crosses, followed by Simon of Cyrene who carried Christ's; the upper section representing the complete sequence of the Crucifixion with the crucified figures of Christ and the two thieves, the mourning figures of His Mother, the Holy Women and John, a Roman soldier piercing his side and another giving him vinegar, a cave below the cross with the skull of Adam, in front thr
