Despite a disappointment, a good price for Albrecht Dürer
When the work Christ Being Nailed To The Cross by Albrecht Dürer was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000,000.00 – 1,500,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 874,000.00 (€ 806,868.54). Despite this disappointing result, Christ Being Nailed To The Cross is the most expensive artwork by Albrecht Dürer that we have observed at auction so far.
