A LARGE DOUBLE-SIDED ICON WITH THE CORONATION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD AND THE BAPTISM OF CHRIST
RUSSIAN, LATE 17TH CENTURY
One side showing the Mother of God kneeling flanked by Christ with the closed Gospels and God the Father holding a 'globus cruciger', the haloed Dove of the Holy Spirit above and the anthropomorphic images of the Evangelists on the corners; the other side displaying Christ standing in the river Jordan with St. John to the left blessing and three angels in a row on the opposite side, the presence of God the Father and the Holy Spirit denoted by a dove and the rayed segment of heaven above; both sides painted in deep colours with gold details
