Artist Statement

My artistic approach is the alternation between being on the move - somewhere else and here. You could also say: the shift between inside and outside perspectives. On trips to places of longing, sketches of ideas, drawings and watercolors emerge, from which memories later grow into imagery in the studio, combining contrasts of abundance and frugality, serene calm and strenght.

Te here is synonymous with Berlin and the familiar studio. Berlin as a big city plays a big role. It offers everything that enriches an artist´s work: art, Culture, hustle and bustle, constant movement, change and temptation.  The contrast is the peace and quiet and the work in the remote studio. Mostly figure paintings, but also landscapes and interiors are created there. The figure paintings often show female figures in the normality of everyday situations. They remain in the stanstill of the moment. They linger and show themselves to the viewer seemingly unobserved, waiting and thinking. The images depict constructed realities, snapshots that do not hide the fact that it is impossible to stop time. By pausing, the figures invite the viewer to do the same and thus enable communication. Each of these figures reflects their own, very personal situation in their attitude and yet at the same time serves as a symbol of fundamental attitudes and reactions to human existence: vulnerability, doubt, pride and strenght. This means that the pictures contain more than just the motive description, which underlies the strong impression of nature. Rather, I am concerned with connections to meaning and so the images are evidence of lived identity and personal perception. The landscapes and interiors offer a section of the inner world, the focus of which is the contrast between permanence and transience. They demonstrate intimicy, radiate calm and are a symbol of stability and growth.These images underline and complement the figure images trough calm intensity and sensuality of the color substance.

These are refuges from which the core of my work develops and images that escape the fast - moving hustle and bustle of today´s big city Berlin.
