Starting on December 11, 2011, the Zentrum Paul Klee in Bern will host the special exhibition »aesthetics of simplicity − max bill and the ulm school of design« in addition to the already ongoing exhibition »max bill global«, which will focus specifically on the origins of the Ulm School of Design (HfG Ulm). Its architect and founding rector Max Bill (1908-1994) was also a painter, sculptor, designer and graphic artist as well as a curator, teacher and politician. He is one of the best-known representatives of Concrete Art, with which he wanted to contribute to the improvement of society. To this end, art and design had to be universal: »from coffee cups to housing estates« was the motto of the interdisciplinary and internationally oriented HfG Ulm, where the ideas of the Bauhaus were to be continued.

With its exposed concrete, unusual at the time, and minimalist interior, the building complex is considered an outstanding architectural achievement of the post-war period. The campus was listed as a historic monument as early as 1979 because of its significance. In the special exhibition, visitors can trace the development of the building from the first drafts to the original execution and gain insights into Bill's working methods.

An accompanying program of film screenings and lectures on Max Bill and the further developed ideas of the Bauhaus school, as well as guided tours with the curators, complement the exhibition about a visionary of the 20th century. Together with »max bill global«, this special exhibition worth seeing will end on 09 January 2022.Art.Salon

London, Tate Britain

It was one of the most moving decades in the history of the United Kingdom: the 1980s, characterized by strikes, protests and AIDS. Photographers documented this period and in some cases became political activists themselves through their images. The exhibition The 80s: Photographing Britain opens on November 21 at the Tate Britain in London.
