One may well imagine how the vast landscapes of the Scandinavian peninsula and its long, dark winter sharpen one's eye for the tranquility in life. The London exhibition Carla Åhlander & Camilla Løw at the Belmacz features works by Swedish Carla Åhlander and Norwegian Camilla Løw. The former goes in search of the quiet tones in life in photographic series: longing views of mountain slopes, being introverted while waiting for the subway after work, or the pauses during long car rides. Løw, on the other hand, forces people to rest through her sculptures. Her monochrome works, dominated by simple geometries, invite us to forget all hustle and bustle and enjoy a moment of silence.
Åhlander was born in 1966 in Lund and studied art history and photography in Sweden, Italy and Denmark. She mainly works with photographic series that show everyday life in a different light. Løw was born in Oslo in 1976 and studied fine arts in Glasgow. For her minimalist-looking sculptures she uses industrial materials, which she provides with memory-evoking titles.
With the exhibition Hanns Kunitzberger: Likeness 2002-2005, the Hamburger Kunsthalle is presenting the multi-part work of the same name by the Austrian artist. The multi-layered, abstract paintings have a magnetic effect on viewers. The exhibition opens on November 29.
In a major exhibition with over 150 exhibits, the Tate Modern sheds light on the beginnings of optical, kinetic and digital art. From November 28, the works of numerous renowned artists will be on display in Electric Dreams: Art and Technology Before the Internet in London.
