Nora Turato at MoMA

Language developments on the Internet as art performance

Advertising and social media are her raw material: artist Nora Turato condenses new linguistic developments on the Internet into artful performances. After two years, she returns to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) for her presentation pool 5, beginning March 5.

Her performances are meticulously rehearsed, but seem like impulsive improvisation: between March 5 and 20, Nora Turato will perform pool 5 a total of 30 times. Turato's performance is not only art but also a sociological project. In addition to linguistic trends and developments, she also incorporates much-discussed cultural and political topics.

The Amsterdam-based artist (*1991) is a trained graphic designer. Her particular eye for advertising slogans and language trends is only the basis of her performances: Turato's abilities to disguise her voice and express emotions intensely are most highly praised by critics. With her work, the artist also wants to draw attention to the fact that, seen globally, women's freedom of speech is not a given, as it should be.Art.Salon
