In Matisse Alive, visitors experience the famous painter in a slightly different way: a program of contemporary art, music and performance encompasses the work of Henri Matisse. The exhibition is on view in Sydney at the Art Gallery New South Wales until April 3. The featured artists who drew inspiration from Matisse are Nina Chanel Abney, Sally Smart, Angela Tiatia and Robin White.

Henri Matisse (1869-1954) is considered one of the most important artists of classical modernism, especially as a major representative of Fauvism, the first movement of the era. Matisse captured colorful sensations two-dimensionally on his canvases; colors, objects and spaces were given the same relevance in his work. In addition, his silhouettes from the 1940s were style-forming. At this time, the abstract expressionists in the USA were already referring to Matisse's work, which is still a point of reference and inspiration for artists today.Art.Salon
