Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
When the work Lake Ninevah, Vermont, 1985 by Tseng Kwong Chi was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 9,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than five times as high at USD 50,400.00 (€ 43,272.95). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Tseng Kwong Chi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Jean-Michel Basquiat, New York, 1987, which sold at auction in November 2021 for USD 125,000.00 (€ 110,746.88).
