This artwork by Michael Williams achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in May 2019. In the 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session auction, the work Did you get more Sofa than you Bargained for? sold for USD 81,250.00 (€ 72,876.49) - well above the upper estimate of USD 35,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Michael Williams; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Scott Whatever 2 sold at auction in November 2015 with the realized price of USD 93,750.00 (€ 88,761.60).
