Auction result well in line with expectations

In April 2021 Bonhams in London held the auction Modern & Contemporary African Art Online Sale, which included this untitled work by Malangatana Ngwenya. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,530.00 (€ 1,759.95) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Malangatana Ngwenya achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Matalana in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 27,500.00 (€ 31,898.03).

Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen

Im April 2021 führte Bonhams in London die Auktion Modern & Contemporary African Art Online Sale durch, in der auch diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Malangatana Ngwenya zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 1.500,00 – 2.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 1.530,00 (€ 1.759,95) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Malangatana Ngwenya erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Matalana im Oktober 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 27.500,00 (€ 31.898,03).
