Gonçalo Mabunda is a Mozambican artist whose art practice utilizes weapons collected and deactivated by the Christian Council of Mozamique (CCM) following the devastating civil war that lasted almost twenty years. To date, 800,000 guns have been collected by the CCM.

Auction result well in line with expectations
In November this year Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts held the auction Dance of Death, which included the work Untitled (Throne), 2015 by Gonçalo Mabunda. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 5,000.00 – 8,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 5,120.00 (€ 4,693.80) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gonçalo Mabunda - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Totem, which sold at auction in June 2021 for EUR 15,600.00.
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im November diesen Jahres führte Bonhams in Skinner Marlborough, Massachusetts die Auktion Dance of Death durch, in der auch die Arbeit Untitled (Throne), 2015 von Gonçalo Mabunda zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 5.000,00 – 8.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 5.120,00 (€ 4.693,80) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Gonçalo Mabunda mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Totem beobachtet, die im Juni 2021 für EUR 15.600,00 versteigert wurde.
